Soothe the body, open air passages, calm the mind.

In times of stress many people reach for comfort foods and turn to bad habits that may not be helpful.  In fact, they are often doing more harm than good.  Incorporate a few of these healthy habits into your daily routine to maintain balance.

Foods to eat & foods to avoid for lungs burdened by smoke & fire

Your lungs and sinuses like to be cool & moist.  Smoke & fires tend to cause them to become dry and hot.  Often people experience increased mucous as the lungs work hard to clear particulates.  This results in coughing, wheezing & congestion.  What you eat & drink plays a big part in supporting your lungs & sinuses.
  • AVOID: Spicy & fried foods, alcohol, excessive dairy
  • INCREASE: Simple, whole foods
  • ENJOY: Pears, cucumbers, coconut, lime, apples, grapefruit, pumpkin, sunflower and flax seeds
  • FOR WHEEZING: Vitamin C & Omegas- Fatty fish, berries, ginger, garlic, citrus and strawberries
  • FOR MUCOUS:  Broths, mung beans, celery, lemons, watercress, parsley, apple cider vinegar, green tea
  • FOR COUGH: Honey, mint, pineapple, chicken soup, licorice, turmeric

Hydration is more than drinking water

Hydration not only occurs from what you drink but from the air around you.  When your dehydrated your body seeks moisture through your nasal passages.
  • AVOID: Alcohol, soda and sugary beverages
  • INCREASE: Water MASSIVELY
  • OUT THE GATE: Begin each morning with a large glass of lemon water
  • STEAM: Hot showers to inhale steam
  • 50:100 RULE: For every 1 cup of a caffeinated beverage you drink double your water intake
  • NASAL PASSAGES: A solution of salt and water to gently mist into the nose keeps the osmotic hydration balance so your body doesn’t need to absorb moisture droplets from the air. Use 1-2 sprays in each nostril every 2-3 hours a day.
  • HYDRATION CHECK: Is your urine clear?  Are you peeing often?  Are your lips moist? Then your hydrated!

Acupressure points for lungs & sinuses

An acupressure point is an area of the body where, when stimulated, sends messages to the body to come into balance.  Acupressure for lungs & sinuses will help with clogged passages, wheezing and coughing.
  • FIND IT: Press around the area and find the sore spot.  Your finger will often fall into a divet.
  • RUB: Apply pressure for 15-20 seconds.  Press & release or small circles.
  • RELAX: Enjoy the moment and let your body reset

Nasal Flushing the Easy Way

If you have a neti pot, great.  But if not here’s an easy way to get straight to flushing those nasal passages.
  • SUPPLIES: Large flexible cup, salt, water (filtered is preferred)
  • OPTIONAL SUPPLIES: Liquid silver, tea tree oil, grapeseed extract
  • COMMIT: Remember you are brave and you must fearlessly commit to this.  It has a big payoff so go for it!
  • BEST PLACE: Flush in the shower as it tends to be messy.
  • CAUTION: If you are adding ingredients other than salt to your flush use the very smallest amount.  It intensifies the flush and less than a drop will work well.
  • REPEAT: Do a minimum of 1-2 times a day until you feel the sinuses clearing.  Once clear, discontinue

Give your Skin Some Sugar Scrubin’ Lovin’

Here’s a great way to shed dead skin layers and moisturize at once.  According the Chinese Medicine, your Lungs rule the skin.  If your skin is dry nourish the lungs from the inside out by soothing the skin.
  • INGREDIENTS: Sugar, olive or coconut oil, essential oils
  • DIRECTIONS: Add 1-2 cups sugar to a bowl.  Slowly stir in oil until sugar is wet from the oil but the oil is not pooling.  Add essential oils to your liking.
    • SHOWER: Hop in the shower and scrub your whole body.  Spend extra time on the dry spots.
  • CAUTION: Oil makes the shower slippery!  Use caution and clean shower afterward so others don’t slip.

Essential Oils for Lungs & Sinuses

An essential oil is a concentrated, volatile, aromatic liquid that is obtained from the fruits, seeds, flowers, bark, stems, roots, leaves or other parts of a plant. There are over 10,000 substances with essential oils on Earth.  These oils have been used for centuries for both their healing and aromatic benefits.
  • DIFFUSE: Essential oils are placed in this device, usually with water (be sure to read the directions), and sometimes with heat so they evaporate. This is a good way to add the scent of an essential oil to a room. Never be directly burn an essential oil as it changes the chemical structure.
  • STEAM: Add a few drops of essential oil to a bowl of steaming water.  Place a towel over your head and over the bowl of water with essential oil drop(s) and breathe deeply. Use 1-2 drops of oil as this method is potent. Avoid eye irritation by keeping them closed.
  •  Note: Not recommended for children younger than 7 years old. Children 7+ can use swimming goggles to protect their eyes.
  • SPRAY: Drops of essential oils added to a water-based solution, shaken, and sprayed into the air in order can deodorize a room or set a mood. Many oils are effective household cleaners.

  • OIL RECOMMENDATIONS: (We recommend using Young living Oils.  All these oils are found in the premium starter kit which comes with a diffuser.  It’s a great way to get started with oils.)
